Imagine sitting on the grass, scanning the ground to look for the most comfortable spot, a flat surface with no blemishes, in order to lie down. This urban bench is also hesitant about flattening itself completely flush with the ground. Its lower surface undulates and interferes with the ground, affording only a few points of support. But its upper surface is level and orderly and can be used to rest a while before continuing one’s way in the hustle and bustle of the urban environment. Like a public space in motion, it oscillates between order and disorder, a balance generating creativity, conviviality and encounter: beauty within chaos.
