Only a week left

It was more than about time for us to keep everyone updated. The last weeks have been both exhausting and very exciting for everyone here, but that’s the price to pay for all the good news we have to offer today :

The inauguration-party

The inauguration-party of the exhibition in the park had been planned for june 28, but we’ve postponed it to july 5 (and the weather seems to show that was a nice idea). Which means there’s only a week left before you can all discover the 5 brand new prototypes, but also a performance by Elsa Bishop, a French trapezist, called ‘Au fil de l’Arbre’.

Everyone can follow the upcoming (crazy) days where the prototypes will be finished, shipped and installed, either on the front-page or right here. You’re also welcome to go great the team in the park, to join them in their sun-dances and other types of prayers they put together as soon as a nasty-looking cloud comes up in the sky.

The publication book

We had announced a publication. There won’t be any. Instead, we bring you : ‘Parckdesign’ – the book. 128 pages, hundreds of pictures, a gorgeous binding, an essay, opinions of members of the jury, and of course many many projects, all in three languages.

We’re very greatful Stichting Kunstboek (the editor) gave us such an opportunity. We’re hoping (and are quite confident) it will be a big success in book stores, that it will give participants international visibility, which perhaps might lead them to new opportunities.

All participants will get one delivered by mail as soon as we can. Design addicts, park lovers, and all the rest of you will have to wait until they show up in the best book stores near you.

And the winners are...

The Brussels’ Minister of Environment and Energy, Evelyne Huytebroeck, is proud to announce the winners of the Parckdesign 2007 call for proposals, as designated by the jury.

In the order in which projects were received :

She also has the pleasure to announce the winner of the public’s voting :

Finaly, she would like to thank all the designers of the other projects for their participation.

Voting is closed. Time for a big thank you.

In barely a week, you have been 11 thousand visitors to this website, often leaving ratings and comments. The last vote accepted for the public prize, casted seconds before midnight, was the 8804 th . 887 comments have been posted, of which only one has had to be moderated.

That disserves a gift!

We would like to offer all of you a discount of 25 € on the human cities : sustainable environmental design colloquium.

We’ve been going through the 71 projects on screen, and are now taking a break. Jury members are taking the opportunity to look through the papers of their favourite projects. A general consensus seems to appear on the need to rappidly shorten down the list to ten or so candidates.

There has been some debate on the Phonèmes project. Consensus has it that, although it is a variation around a long-term research, it has too many technical similarities on how it was presented at Saint-Etienne to be accepted. Besides, projects have been refused for arriving late. The project is therefore not accepted.

We’re also expecting Evelyne Huytebroeck (the minsiter that launched this competition) to come by any time soon.

13.00

Evelyne Huytebroeck has joined us for the dinner, had a chat with the jury and peeked at many of the projects with much interest. As can be expected of a minister, she had obligations later in the day. Meanwhile, jury members started discussing projects in groups while preparing for the afternoon, discovering selecting only four projects would be a hard task.

15.00

The list has been gotten down to 9 projects, after much, sometimes heated debate. The jury has then been warned of who won the public prize, as it was not on the list for a while anymore. It created a positive sense of surprise, showing how differently one can look at a project. The project was easily accepted as it presented almost unreproachable technical detailing.

Only voting for a majority was then able to decide on the 4 other winners, as discussions became more of a matter of subjective preferences. The final list came over as a good one and required only little discussion to be ratified officially.

16.00

As the meeting was coming to an end, the enveloppe containing the names of the participants was unceiled. It created for much surprise and amusement again, as some of the names were very familiar to some members of the jury, who had been totally unaware. A new light was shed on some of the projects, which suddenly could be interpreted differently, once put in context of a creator’s work. Design is a hard thing to judge on, one has to agree.

Where do the votes stand?

Here are the names and scores of the 5 candidates that have up to now attracted the most 4 and 5 stars rates.

There is currently a gap of about 200 points between the 5th and 6th positions.

A gap has been opening between the two first positions and the rest since yesterday, while the two are switching places frequently. Projects that have previously been at the first position are now out of the top 10 alltogether. The same goes for some projects with a lot of comments.

Which means everything really still can change. With more than 24h left for the public to vote, and seen the steadily increasing poppularity of this website, there are still a lot of votes to be casted.

We will not publish any further results until the final announcement.

You probably all still have one vote left to cast for every project. Use it wisely!
